Netting to Block Windows and Odd Spaces

Netting is a very multipurpose material that can be utilized as a great solution to block-off many odd-shaped spaces and areas.  At we have supplied netting panels to hundreds of customers that noted that they were using it for those sorts of installations.  Many times the areas that need to have a mesh barrier are required to be protected because there is a window present.  Other times there are other factors to account for as well, such as scoreboards, lights, or doorways.

Using the DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting that we have available for customized productions, there are many options for your consideration when it comes down to requiring specialty dimensions, sizes, or shapes of your barrier netting.  There are a few other materials that we supply as well, but generally speaking the knotted nylon netting is used for the highly custom productions.  Depending on what it is that is required to be blocked or contained (the sizes of the objects to be protected from, in other words) you currently have mesh sizes available of 3/4", 1", 1-3/4", and 4".  And then there are many twine thicknesses of the netting as well.  A thicker twine will mean a stronger overall net, with a greater expectation of abrasion durability, along with a more visible look.

Sometimes the best match for a certain application is a very lightweight twine with a large mesh size, for instance for a basic basketball barrier use (the #15 X 4" is very typical).  Another example is a multipurpose barrier installation that is intended to deter birds, large leafs, or general debris objects (something like the #12 X 1" is popular for this).

So the most common sort of customization for barrier netting is simply the measurements of the height X length needed.  From you have the option to order and be supplied with practically any sort of dimensions that you may need.  We see nets that are quite small (4' X 4') to nets that are very large (100' X 150'), and everything in-between.  But we also do a lot of specialty shapes and tapered/angled netting panels as well.  These are usually nets that are being used by our customers to barricade spaces like windows or to fill-in some odd-shaped areas.  Here are a couple examples from the last couple of weeks that will provide some context on these sorts of netting jobs - and certainly feel free to contact Gourock if you'd like us to take a look at your particular request!

Unique Custom-Shaped Nylon Nets

Here at we specialize in the supply of customized nylon netting productions, and there is always a consistent run of very unique fabrications being completed and shipped out to various clients and customers.  One of the great characteristics of nylon netting is that there is a wide range of applications that are exceedingly well suited for the material.  Because the DuPont® nylon netting that we produce with is available in a variety of mesh sizes and twine thicknesses, there is almost always an opportunity for the netting to be a fantastic solution for a particular situation.

For instance, if a client is seeking netting to contain baseball and softball impacts, the 1-3/4" mesh size is perfect.  And then the decision comes down to how thick of twine would be most preferred - since there are lightweight, medium range, and heavyweight twine thicknesses available in that mesh size.
So some example situations for each of these would be along the lines of:
#12 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting:  "I need a general barrier net to block random errant balls from a ceiling area in an indoor installation".
#21 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting:  "I am seeking spectator barrier netting for the seating/stands at my baseball/softball stadium".
#36 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting:  "I'm installing a divider net at my hitting facility that will be subjected to a high amount of impacts over a consistent time-frame".
#72 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting:  "I'm setting up soft-toss and tee/hitting nets to constantly hit baseballs and softballs into everyday".

So these are just some very general ideas for context, but are a good way to get a grip on the different types of questions to consider when determining which sort of application you're doing and how to place the different netting options into their most typical places.  And you can use a similar thought process for every sort of sport, industrial application, multipurpose use, or general barrier and containment situation.  There is a great selection of mesh sizes, twine thicknesses, and materials supplied by for nearly every type of application you can think of.

Another aspect of things that makes the netting products that Gourock supplies very enticing, is that not only are there different strength/mesh options available - there is also the ability to have netting fabricated to customized sizing and shapes to best fit your specific area and job.  Here are four unique examples from the last few weeks that help demonstrate some of the jobs that are always being made-up and shipped out here at

Custom Netting Enclosures for Indoor Training Facilities

The winter season is always a very busy time of year for Gourock, since there are so many indoor netting installations that require materials and custom productions that head out the door.  One of the great features of the nylon netting products that we have available is the customization of sizing and dimensions that can be provided.  A lot of indoor installations have very unique sizing requirements due to the shape or overall space constraints of the building, room, or training area.  This is a common consideration for both commercial clients as well as for private residential users, and fortunately by using as a netting source you can most effectively plan around the custom needs of the overall installation.

Over the years we have developed many great relationships with lots of commercial training facilities and businesses - and it's always interesting to see some of the new netting designs that are being setup at various locations.  Indoor sports facilities often have accommodations for multiple sports, so may need a variety of different mesh sizes or twine thicknesses depending on the usage.  Some examples are indoor baseball and softball hitting and pitching/fielding locations, indoor soccer and futsal establishments, indoor volleyball and basketball courts, as well as hockey and lacrosse locations.

In most instances a variety of individual netting panels do a great job to effectively block and contain different objects.  Netting panels can be hung or suspended within the building where they are particularly needed to divide and separate different training zones, or to act as a general barrier for the overall space.  But another very effective approach is to go with a larger enclosure netting design that incorporates the sides, ends, and ceiling netting all sewn-together into a seamless 3-dimensional product.  This is a very popular approach for batting cage nets and golf cage nets, and is also a great method for fully-enclosing an entire indoor space as well.  Often times the overall larger enclosure netting is also supplemented with a variety of separate divider panel nets as well, which allows for different areas of the enclosure to be blocked/separated into several smaller training areas as well.

With Gourock you can take any, or all of these different approaches for an indoor facility.  Featuring very strong and high-end DuPont® type 66-728 knotted nylon netting, 100% USA materials and construction, and expert craftsmanship - you're free to highly customize your netting installation and also have full confidence in the product performance and quality.
Here are 3 examples from the last 4 weeks of some unique netting enclosure designs that have been produced and shipped out to some indoor training facilities, and feel free to keep in touch if you have something in mind that you may need to have supplied:

Indoor Netting Installations

It's getting to the time of the year where we at assist a lot of customers with customized nets that are needed for indoor installations.  There are many instances where the locations that are required to to covered by protective or impact netting include some building features that are "in the way".  For example we see people needing to account for beams, rafters, doors, drop-ceilings, roofline tapers, and other integrated and permanent characteristics of the indoor space.  Luckily, by using Gourock for your netting production and supply you do have some good opportunities to take these sorts of room/building constraints into account when having your protective netting manufactured.

Over the years Gourock has supplied hundreds of customers with sports and multipurpose netting productions that are being hung or installed within indoor spaces.  This is a pretty popular way to go throughout the entire year, but definitely more typical throughout the late autumn and winter seasons.  Whether it is for a private/residential use, a high-traffic commercial installation, or an industrial location, we can generally quote and supply customized netting panels that take into-account your indoor shape features.

Below are four recent examples of custom nylon nets that were constructed with particular shapes to make them easy to hang/install around different obstructions (vents, rafters, etc.) and also entrance doors that lead into the indoor area.

Feel free to get in-touch with if you would like to inquire about your own indoor netting needs and we can help out!

Nylon Netting Panels With Custom Shapes supplies a pretty wide range of nylon netting options, and there are many customers that require some fairly custom shapes in order for the netting to accomplish the intended job correctly.  We typically see this sort of necessity with a lot of nets that are being hung or suspended within pretty particular framing structures or matching the contours of a building roofline.  There are lots of customers that opt to go with some bulk sections of netting so that they can then use the overall amount of material to "mold/adjust" within their specific area - and then cut the excess mesh if needed.  But many times the nets are going to be under a decent amount of tension or pressure around the edges, so it is highly beneficial in the long run to have a rope bordering sewn-in (which dramatically increases the strength of the product around the perimeter - and creates a very dependable attachment point for clips or hooks).

Some typical examples of netting installations that often require custom shape features include:
  • Baseball/softball backstops
  • Warehouse barrier applications
  • Ceiling nets covering yards or spectator areas
  • Golf barrier nets at driving ranges
  • Trash barrier nets around landfills
  • Netting for railings and stairs
  • Bird and animal containment applications
  • Sports stadiums and bleachers
  • And many multipurpose residential or industrial applications
Because Gourock offers a variety of mesh sizes and twine thickness for nets, there is generally a good selection to consider for your particular application.  For instance, you'd want to aim for a 1" mesh size if you're doing a gold driving range barrier net, and a 1-3/4" mesh size if you're doing a baseball/softball stadium or backstop net.

Regarding the production of custom-shaped netting panels, the best way to get going on a project like that is to get some accurate measurements of the space/area that is to be covered by the nylon netting mesh, and forward a basic drawing over our way to take a looks at.  Let us know some details about what the netting is being used for (so that a proper mesh/twine can be suggested), and we can come up with an initial quote for you on getting the product made and shipped your way.

For some additional reference, here are a few recent examples of some custom-shaped nylon nets that were manufactured and shipped out to our customers over the last few weeks:

Custom Netting Panels Featuring Notches/Cut-Outs

Many of Gourock's customers have requirements for their custom netting productions that require some shape features that are unique for a particular installation need or use.  For instance, there are times that the netting is being hung or suspended within an area that has some beams, or rafters, or walls that get in the way of things.  Or - sometimes the netting needs to be able to allow objects to pass-through the area.  And sometimes the netting is being connected or laced to a specific framing structure that incorporates tapers or an angled shape/design.  For these sorts of considerations, Gourock can usually have the netting produced in a way that does take into account the customized shape features so that the final installation of the material has a professional appearance and fit.

Some recent examples of this are displayed below.  Each one of these examples helps provide you with some helpful context on the types of customization that is available from, and also the different types of customers that often need these sorts of nets.  If you have a situation where the netting would be best if it did have some unique shape features you can certainly contact and provide us with the details of what you are aiming for.  At that point we can provide some guidance, and provide a quotation on what we have available to have produced and shipped for you.  The following netting examples range from being quite large in finished sizing, to relatively small in area.  Some of them are for private/residential users, and some of them are for large industrial clients.  So no matter what the sizing or usage, you're invited to at least check out what Gourock can quote a supply and perhaps you'll be able to get a more specific fit and appearance for your netting job!

Nylon Netting Panels With Rope Riblines

Many netting installations have some specific or particular connection/hanging requirements that need to be taken into account.  For instance, a net may need to have the ability to be properly fastened or clipped to a set of existing cables, or to some posts/poles that are incorporated in the framing area.  Many times we hear from our customers that the netting that they'll be hanging will be wrapping around a set of posts for instance - or maybe the netting will be hanging horizontally and requires some additional connection points within the area of the mesh itself.

Whatever the situation may be, a great solution is to have "riblines" sewn-in through the inner area of the netting.  Riblines are ropes that are woven through the mesh and are used as reinforced connection points for any sort of clipping/hanging that is needed during the final installation of the material.  So rather than clipping to the individual twines of the netting, you have a thick rope to hook to.  This increases the strength and long-term durability of the netting panel itself since the Dacron® rope is a much stronger clipping point than simply using the individual netting twine.  The rope riblines are essentially just like the regular rope borders that are sewn-in around the perimeter of the nets, but they run through the area rather than around the edges.

The netting productions from that feature rope riblines are used for a pretty wide variety of different applications.  We see them needed for backstop nets behind baseball and softball fields, for golf nets that are wrapping around different framing structures, on ceiling nets that are covering gymnasiums and sports facilities, on driving range and landfill nets that need additional connection points due to wind, and other various industrial or commercial installations that require central netting connections.

Generally speaking, the nylon nets that have riblines installed on them are built using the DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting.  The edges are rope bordered with 5/16" braided Dacron® ropes, which is what is also used for the central riblines as well.  Below are some recent examples of custom netting productions supplied by that have rope riblines installed on them, and they help provide some additional context into this sort of netting construction and finished product:

Custom Nylon Netting Enclosures - Commercial Applications

Gourock has been supplying custom netting enclosures for many different applications for many years - and that type of product is a company specialty.  Some of the most popular uses for enclosures that are built from netting are:
  • baseball, softball and golf containment installations
  • animal and bird barrier needs
  • general multipurpose sports containment (hockey, dodgeball, cricket, etc.)
There are many customers that require custom enclosure nets for private use or residential installations, and also a lot of commercial clients that have needs for customized enclosures for training facilities, businesses, collegiate, professional, and high-abrasion applications. can quote and supply most any height X width X length that a particular netting enclosure may need - and not only that, there are often many different unique features or characteristics that can be included in the production of the final product as well.  For instance - many of the unique nets that have been manufactured and shipped over the years have included aspects like:
  • additional upper ceiling line ropes
  • tapered sizing and changes in shape
  • netting entrance flaps
  • "open" ends and "loose corner" end panels
  • extended rope tails (for hanging/suspending)
These nets are built from the DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting, which is a very high end and premium material.  Typical mesh sizes are 3/4" (to contain smaller objects such as golf balls) and 1-3/4" (typical for baseball-sized objects and larger).  There are a variety of different twine thicknesses available to consider - and for commercial high-abrasion applications the thickest twines are most preferred to maximize the overall durability of the netting over time and use.

The reasons why customized netting is often required for commercial and professional clients have a lot to do with the available space available within an indoor facility - or the sizing/spacing required to accurately fit the netting within a framing support structure that is already in-place or that is under construction.  It's not too much different than dealing with custom netting panels (such as around a stadium, driving range, or field) with the primary difference being that the job requires consideration of a 3-dimensional area (sides, ends, and ceiling).  Additionally, many of the other unique features that are often integrated into the finished netting production are included due to client preferences of installation technique and other particular needs.

Certainly feel free to drop us a line and contact us with your sizing and initial details of what your aiming for, and we can get a quote together for what we have available to supply and have produced for your custom netting needs.

Here are a couple of examples from the last month showing some interesting 3-dimensional nets produced and shipped for commercial/professional sports facilities:

Example 1:
This is a golf cage net featuring high strength #21 X 3/4" knotted nylon netting, custom dimensions, a tapered/angled shape, and the addition of a supplemental impact net to increase the amount of material covering the back primary hitting area:

Example 2:
This is a commercial batting cage facility netting construction featuring a very heavy-weight #84 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting, custom dimensions, a tapered/angled height aspect, custom ceiling lines, and a 'split' design to account for installation framing beams that needed to be taken into account during the hanging of the netting:

Another New Netting Choice Available - 4" Mesh Nylon offers a wide range of netting products, including a variety of mesh sizes, twine thickness, and materials.  There are some great selections to consider for all types of different sports netting, commercial/industrial applications, barrier nets, and various multipurpose netting uses.
One of the most dependable and popular materials is the DuPont® Type 66-728 Twisted Knotted Nylon.  Gourock has consistently supplied this in mesh sizes of 3/4", 1", and 1-3/4" - and we have now added a larger 4" mesh size to the available options.

Completely Made in the USA, the #15 X 4" knotted nylon netting is a black colored material that is supplied in a square mesh pattern.  It can be supplied to most any particular rectangular/square dimensions that your require, and either as bulk netting itself or with a perimeter rope bordering sewn-in (5/16" Dacron® rope).  You can take a look at the 4" Nylon Netting By-The-Square-Foot Here, or can view some Common/General Dimensions Here.
This 4" mesh netting is great for:
  • Soccer Barrier Netting
  • Basketball Barrier Netting
  • Volleyball Barrier Nets
  • Dodgeball Containment Nets
  • Agricultural and Garden Netting
  • General Multipurpose Netting Uses (+4" diameter options)
Another great use for the #15 X 4" netting is for the Ceiling Barrier Netting for indoor basketball/volleyball/soccer applications.  It is a wider mesh opening than baseball netting (which is a 1-3/4" mesh size) which mean less disruption of your overhead lighting, but is a great and functional mesh size to safely contain balls and objects that are 4" in diameter and larger.  It's also a very lightweight netting option, but maintains a high tensile strength of 144 lbs./twine.

Some Recent 3-Dimensional Netting Productions

Nylon netting materials from are available to be fabricated as 3-dimensional products.  Lots of times you'll see this type of construction done for uses such as batting cage nets and golf cage nets - but there are also many other applications that are very well suited for this sort of design.  For instance, Gourock has supplied customized 3D nets for soccer goals, sports facility containment, animal and bird enclosures, institutional applications, trade-shows and events, and a host of other diverse uses.

A general similarity between all of these types of netting constructions is that they all require a ceiling, a pair of sides walls, and at least one end panel - all seamed together into a complete finished 3-dimensional or "cube-like" final product.  Some of them can be quite large, for instance dozens of feet in height X width X length.  Other instances require the nets to be more moderate in sizing, to fit into smaller areas such as custom frames or within indoor space constraints.  As as each of these types of netting productions generally share some typical features, most also integrate a host of unique characteristics that are specific for that particular customer and their preferences.

Built from the highest quality DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting, custom nylon netting enclosures supplied by are extremely durable, highly customizable, and produced per-order using 100% American materials and fabrication.  You can find many examples of netting enclosures throughout this blog and also on the site itself, and here are 3 recent examples from the last couple of weeks or so:

Batting Cage Net Installation, Backyard/Residential with Cable-Suspension

Batting cage nets from are installed and hung in a wide variety of methods, with a very popular approach being a technique known as a "cable suspension".  The cable suspension design is very efficient for both indoor installations, as well as outdoor setups.  The general context is that a series of cables or wires are tensioned between some supporting structures, and then the batting cage net is clipped/suspended underneath the wires.
For indoor installations the cables are generally attached and tensioned between walls, or from eyebolts that are installed into ceiling rafters.  And for outdoor installations the cables are most typically tensioned between some poles or posts that have been set into ground.  The general recommendations for either type of installation is to locate the cables so that they line-up with the dimensions of the batting cage net that is being suspended.  This means that there is usually 3 cables for an average sized net:  one for each side, and one running down the center.
For additional context on this, reference the following article that is also on this blog:

A recent Gourock batting cage customer documented his installation, and sent us this great photo portfolio of the construction process and materials that he opted to use.  This is a residential batting cage installation that utilizes the cable suspension technique, and features a custom footprint/bed for the batting area and a unique clamping mechanism to secure the wires to the square steel support poles.
The netting is a #42 HDPE Batting Cage Net, 12' high X 14' wide X 55' long.  This net has a physical weight of 100 lbs.
As you can see from the end results of this project, he also added a lighting system for nighttime practice.
This is a really great setup, and a fantastic construction design - thanks again Mike!
