Volleyball Barrier Netting

Volleyball courts and volleyball facilities often need to use barrier netting around them to contain volleyballs from leaving the practice and playing areas.  Gourock.com supplies nylon netting that is perfectly suited for volleyball barrier installations, and can have the netting prepared according to any particular custom dimensions that you require for the job.  Volleyball barrier netting is generally a bit of a larger mesh size netting, such as a 4" mesh size material.  A mesh size like this functions very well to contain and block larger sports objects like volleyballs, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, and dodge balls.  But in combination with the functionality, the larger mesh size of 4" means that you can minimize the amount of netting within the entire area - which keeps the netting minimally visible, and as lightweight as possible.

There are a couple of twine thicknesses available in the 4" mesh size nylon netting that Gourock supplies for volleyball barrier netting uses, and they are the #15 (1.7mm) and the heavier #30 (2.3mm).  Both are fantastic for volleyball containment netting uses, and have their own set of preferred features.  For instance, the #15 is most popular for indoor installations because there is no detrimental effect from UV exposure, and the thinner twine thickness minimizes the amount of material pre square foot (which means that the most amount of light can shine though, and the netting is minimally visible).  The #30 is more popular for longterm outdoor installations, or for areas that expect higher amounts of wear/abrasion - such as commercial or high-traffic areas.
That said - both the #15 and the #30 can and are installed in both outdoor and indoor installations, and you can view/price/order them from this page of the Gourock site:
http://www.gourock.com/custom-volleyball-netting.html

Many schools, training facilities, and commercial sports businesses require volleyball barrier netting to surround their individual courts from each other, as well as to block balls from passing into spectator areas.  Here are a couple of example photos from Indoor Sand in Northwood, OH - a Gourock customer that installed the #15 X 4" knotted nylon netting for their volleyball containment purposes.  You can check out their establishment at www.indoorsand.com - and thanks again, we appreciate your business!

Custom Golf Netting Enclosure for Training Facility

Gourock.com specializes in the supply of custom netting that is used for a wide variety of applications and customers, and over the years there have been hundreds of customized golf nets produced and shipped out.  Whether your project calls for a private use net at your home, a large commercial-style net for your business or organization, or most any type of usage in-between, Gourock.com has supplied it.  The ability to have customized netting productions built to your own preferred sizing and dimensions is a huge benefit when it comes down to planning around unique spaces, rooms and buildings, and for intended areas both very large and very small.

3/4" mesh size DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting is the high-quality netting material that we specialize in, and it is a netting selection that is 100% Made in the USA and prepared per-invoice for your particular order and size/design requirements.  Nylon is a very strong and durable material that features a high abrasion resistance and high tensile rating, while remaining relatively light in actual physical weight.  These characteristics make it a premium choice for golf impact netting applications, including golf hitting nets, golf cage enclosure nets, and customized golf ball containment nets.  Generally speaking, Gourock.com has two different twine thicknesses available to select for your golf netting project, which are a thicker #21 (2.0mm) twine and a lighter/thinner #15 (1.8mm) twine.  The #21 is most recommended for primary golf ball impact areas and areas of high abrasion and usage/friction, whereas the #15 does block and contain directly driven shots but is more typical for general containment nets to keep errant shots from leaving a particular area.

At the Gourock site we offer an Online Custom Netting Calculator that allows you to have golf cage nets built to your own preferred custom dimensions.  Simply determine what height, width, and depth that you prefer to work with and install - and we can produce that finished netting product for you and ship it to your location.  Both the #15 and #21 twine thickness knotted nylon netting options are available to select from, and then you can also choose to have a secondary layer of impact netting included as well (separately) that is used to "double-layer" the entire back end panel of the netting enclosure.  The secondary impact netting layers are always built from the thicker #21 twine thickness nylon netting, and the golf cage enclosure nets are built with the sides, the top/ceiling, and the back end nets all seamed together with rope bordering (the front end is "open" to be hitting/driving from).

Custom golf cage nets are a very popular netting construction supplied by Gourock for all types of unique clients.  Many people have particular areas of their homes or properties that require more customized netting builds, and also there are many pro-shops and country clubs that have the same needs for their businesses and players.  Major universities, industrial and commercial clients, and schools/municipalities/organizations also have their custom golf cage nets produced and supplied by Gourock.  The materials that we use are very well prepared for both outdoor and indoor installations - so there are lots of instances where the netting spends part of the year outdoors and then part of the year indoors (for the winter).

The 3/4" mesh twisted-knotted nylon netting that we supply for customized golf cage installations is really functional and user-friendly, so that it hangs very well within framing structures or tensioned cabling setups.
Here is an example of a custom golf cage net that was custom-built and shipped out to a commercial training facility customer of ours.  The material is completely #21 X 3/4" knotted nylon netting, and there was a bit of 'extra' customization requested for the manufacturing design which is an additional rope ceiling line located on the top of the enclosure net.  This net is hanging from a series of hooks and clips that extend down from their ceiling (their own design).  Overall netting sizing on this one was 12'-8" high X 15'-11" wide X 25' long.  The secondary impact panel net was also ordered and supplied.

Basketball Barrier Net with Poles - Customer Photos

Gourock.com supplies many different nets for customers that seek solutions to barricade and block basketballs within their practice area.  Using a basketball barrier netting setup at your location has many advantages over time, since you won't waste much time or energy chasing missed shots and errant balls.  In addition, there are a lot of general safety enhancements as well, considering that rolling basketballs may potentially enter a high traffic area, or wooded areas that may have situations with poison ivy, ticks, or other similar avoidances.

We have many options available to consider for the barrier netting used for basketball applications, both for private residential properties as well as for commercial, municipal, and organizational purposes.  One recent customer of ours sent over a couple photos of his basketball netting setup that he installed at his house.  His hoop and court area had a corner and a back-end that he needed to block errant balls from passing through, since there was a neighbor's fence on one side to avoid damaging, and then a small hill that caused the balls to roll an unnecessary distance from the court.  His preference was a netting solution that would be dependably durable over time, but also be as minimally visible as possible.  The best product match for his use was the #15 X 4" DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting, black color, square mesh with a rope bordering around the perimeter edges.

The #15 X 4" nylon netting is the best selection because it has a larger mesh size of 4" square, making it great for large objects like basketballs, soccer balls, and volleyballs.  Also, it has a thin twine thickness of 1.8mm.  So combining those 2 characteristics means that you have the largest mesh size option possible, made from the thinnest twine thickness available, which very much minimizes the overall amount of netting material within the entire area.  That makes it as "invisible" as can expected, but at the same time it retains a high durability due to the high tensile strength characteristic of nylon material.  The #15 is only 1.8mm thick, but has a tensile rating (breaking strength) of 144 lb./twine.  Very strong, very lightweight, and very dependable for basketball barrier nets.  100% Made in USA.

Our customer also utilized the In-Ground Steel Poles that we have available at gourock.com to purchase.  He used a series of our poles, in conjunction with some of our Bungee Ball Straps, to get a very even and taught netting appearance throughout the entire area.  These are also great to moderate the amount of netting displacement, movement, and reaction to wind.

Here are a couple of photos submitted to us demonstrating the finished product and installation.

It looks really great John!!  Thanks again very much, we appreciate your business and feedback!!

Indoor Baseball & Sports Facility Netting Installation

Gourock.com supplies custom netting for many different types of indoor installations and uses.  There are many types of clients and customers that source custom netting solutions for indoor sports training needs, including:
  • commercial sports training organizations
  • collegiate and university installations
  • professional teams and stadiums
  • sports and physical therapy establishments
  • personal and private residential training applications
  • municipal and scholastic team/club uses
Indoor baseball facilities generally require a variety of different netting solutions to fulfill the needs of the establishment - and in many instances the best approach is to install a 3-dimensional netting enclosure.  Netting enclosures incorporate a design that has both ends, both sides, and the entire top/ceiling mesh seamed together - meant to keep all balls and objects that are within the enclosed area properly contained in the space.  A very commonplace type of baseball product that is a netting enclosure is a batting cage net.  Gourock.com supplies enclosures and batting cage nets that are custom-built according to most any particular dimensions that you require for your space.  Custom combinations of height, width, and length can be easily prices and ordered directly through Gourock's Custom Batting Cage Calculator.

Most larger commercial and collegiate/professional baseball and softball indoor netting installations have the goal of enclosing relatively large areas and volumes within netting.  This allows facility organizers, manager, and owners to have a large space available to train in, while containing baseballs and softballs in a designated area - away from walls, lights, and visitor/general-public zones.  And in addition, many facility organizers also use a series of separate divider nets to slide back-and-forth within the larger netting enclosure - which breaks the larger space into smaller individual tunnel areas and hitting/pitching/training areas.  Gourock.com includes the option to add separate divider panel nets to custom batting cage nets as you continue through the Online Custom Batting Cage Calculator.

Using the highest quality DuPont® Type 66-728 Twisted-Knotted Nylon Netting, 100% Made in the USA, the custom batting cage nets available through Gourock.com are hand-built per-order by professional craftsman with dozens of years of net construction experience.  Very well prepared for outdoor installations (all materials are black UV Stabilized and Latex/Urethane Bonded) as well as for all indoor usage as well - generally any sizing at all can be produced for your particular needs.  Fast turnaround times on custom netting productions, and shipment/delivery options to anywhere.

Indoor netting installations almost always use a hanging approach that uses a series of tensioned cables/wires that stretch across the facility area - and then the netting clips underneath the cabling to suspend it off the ground.  This approach for hanging the netting also allows for the netting to be slid back-and-forth on the wires/cables "curtain-style", which is a very helpful feature to efficiently move the netting out of the way as needed (for maintenance, alternative building spaces uses, storage, etc.). We have provided much information over the years on how this installation approach can be undertaken, and here are some previous blog article and site links that will provide great context about cable suspension techniques:

A recent commercial sports and baseball facility in Ontario, Canada installed an indoor netting enclosure and divider net at their location.  This was a customized netting build that was manufactured to their own personal preferences on sizing and netting twine/mesh, along with the inclusion of top-rope ceiling lines (to line up with hanging cables) and separate divider panel nets.  This facility also utilized 3/16" Aircraft Cabling hardware items and snap-hooks to suspend the enclosure netting at their preferred height - as well as running separate cables for the individual divider panel nets.  Every facility and installation is a unique project, and here is a series of photos of this establishments' installation job, which provides some great general context into how you can go about something very similar at your own indoor sports facility.

Drone Netting Installation at 2017 CES Tradeshow

Gourock.com supplies netting for many different types of drone and U.A.V. applications, and we have 4 particularly popular and recommended netting options available on the site for your consideration:
http://www.gourock.com/drone-netting-uav-nets.html

Drone netting that is supplied by Gourock is available to be ordered to most any specific widths and lengths that you require for your installation - and you can order it as "bulk mesh" material (netting-only, without any sort of finishing border), or as a finished netting panel that features a 5/16" braided polyester rope sewn-in around the perimeter edges.  The 4 netting recommendations on the Gourock.com site for drone nets and U.A.V. nets feature 2 mesh sizes:  1-3/4" and a larger 4" mesh.  And then each mesh size also has a thinner and thicker twine option available to consider.  So what this means is that depending on your particular drone application you have the option to go with something that is lightweight and as 'invisible' as possible, or for material that has extra thickness for increase expectations of abrasion and exposure to the elements.  No matter which netting type is selected, you can expect very high durability and dependability with a great ease-of-use.

Gourock.com specializes in supplying drone nets that are fabricated with high-end DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon.  This netting material has exceedingly strong tensile ratings, is UV stabilized and latex/urethane bonded against the elements, and is available to be built to most any custom sizing that is required for your application and installation project.  Drone nets are used for a pretty diverse range of users, including:

  • university and laboratory research
  • commercial drone-racing
  • airports and bases
  • government and military
  • trade shows and conventions
This past December we had posted an article regarding some very customized drone netting panels that were used for a vendor installation at the 2017 CES trade show in Las Vegas.  For some information on the netting type and design, you can refer to that previous article here: http://netting-gourock.blogspot.com/2016/12/drone-uav-netting-for-trade-shows.html

Here are some photos from the actual installation at the show, which provide great context into how that overall netting supply ended up - and you can use the netting supplied by Gourock for your own drone and U.A.V. barrier netting requirements.  The online shopping cart allows for very efficient and simple ordering of any 2-dimensional (square/rectangular) netting sizes and shapes that you need, as you type-in your sizes right into the Custom Netting Calculator.  But in addition to that, we also supply very specialized tapered shapes and designs as well - which are built to your particular needs.  For example, the nets used for this CES installation for instance.  In that case, simply drop a line through Gourock's contact page and you can request a quotation from us (and you have the opportunity to upload files as well).

Deer and Chicken Barrier Netting - Customer Photo

The netting options supplied by Gourock.com are used for a huge variety of different applications and uses, throughout many industries and users.  A couple of very popular product purposes are deer barrier netting, and bird/poultry barrier nets.

For deer barrier netting, the lighter-weight nylon nets with the larger mesh sizes are the most popular, functional, and recommended.  So the two selections that fulfill most all deer barrier netting orders are the #15 X 4" knotted nylon netting, and the #12 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting.  We supply these options according to most any dimensions you need, and they are composed of the highest quality DuPont® type 66-728 nylon.  100% Made in the USA, these nylon netting types maintain a very higher tensile strength rating while featuring the benefits of a relatively thin twine thickness.  This means you get a very strong and durable netting, while minimizing weight, visibility, effect of wind/elements, and cost.  The Gourock site does provide a deer netting specific page to reference, and it allows for the pricing/ordering of any sizing you need:
http://www.gourock.com/deer-net-calculator.html

Bird barrier netting is quite diverse across the board, and there are many different recommended netting types and configurations based on the particular installation/customer.  Bird barrier netting is used at

  • industrial locations
  • warehouses and hangars
  • zoos and aviaries
  • private residences
  • farms
  • landfill and recycling centers
  • mining and petroleum operations
  • stadiums
  • shops and markets
  • municipal and scholastic locations, as well as
  • many more unique and diverse environments

Gourock.com does bird exclusion nets in nearly every sizing imaginable, ranging from hundreds of feet for commercial clients, to small lengths and areas for private home users.  Just like the deer netting noted above, the Gourock site also has a dedicated page specific to bird netting options as well:
http://www.gourock.com/bird-netting.html

Deer and bird barrier netting are equally popular in both rural and urban environments, as both types of living areas have their own individual concerns with deer and birds.  A recent local customer here in Bellingham has a chicken coop and garden, and also a big need for both types of animal exclusion. For the deer netting, the primary purpose is to block-off the entire surrounding area to keep them from entering the garden area entirely.  And for the chickens, the surrounding deer barrier nets keep them contained within the overall space as well.  But in addition to that, we have a lot of predatory birds here in Bellingham, primarily eagles and hawks.  This customer, like many others in the same situation, require a bird exclusion netting to cover the top of the chicken coop area to keep the predatory falcons out.

Here is a provided photo of the garden/coop and the netting he installed.  The surrounding deer barrier net is the #15 X 4" knotted nylon netting, and it is suspended and hung between a series of general in-ground fence posts.  He used a spool of the #60 nylon twine to weave/lace through the top meshes of the netting, acting as a nice support and border for overall length of net.
The bird netting cover over the top is from the #21 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting.  At Gourock.com we can supply either of these particular netting types according to your preferred dimensions - no problem at all.

Looks really great Pat - thank you again!

Drone & U.A.V. Netting for Trade Shows & Conventions

Gourock.com supplies customized netting productions for many drone and UAV barrier applications, ranging from research installations at university laboratories all the way to commercial and industrial facilities.  Another very popular and unique installation use for drone and UAV barrier nets is at convention centers and trade shows.

The netting types that are most typically used for drone netting are available to order according to most any dimensions that you need on the Drone Netting page on Gourock.com
Mesh sizes of 1-3/4" and 4" are generally the most recommended for many drone netting uses, including those at convention center and trade show displays.  Because Gourock specializes in the supply of custom netting built to your particular sizing needs, there are many opportunities for you to incorporate nylon netting within your trade show display construction.  Protective safety barrier netting is generally a requirement for commercial drone and UAV installations - and the DuPont® type 66-728 knotted nylon netting that is supplied by Gourock.com is a perfect solution for customized and specialized drone displays.  Nylon is very lightweight and flexible, with a very high tensile-strength characteristic.  Relatively thin nylon twine thicknesses retain high breaking strengths, allowing you to minimize the amount of material-per-twine for the barrier netting.  This means a lower visual impedance and increased ease-of-installation.  And since you can have custom sizing provided for your show and installation, you can work with custom-built nets made to-size that save time during setup and increase the overall efficiency of your job.

In addition to the nylon netting being optimal for trade show drone netting installations because of it's physical features, Gourock.com also provides custom-built nets that incorporate very specific shapes and tapered designs.  For instance, there are many times that a finished netting panel that has a triangular shape or a pattern like a hexagon will be needed to accurately match the framing structure of the overall display.  And since these types of displays are usually marketing-oriented, the overall appearance of the finished look is an important consideration.  Using Gourock.com you can have very specific nets fabricated to unique sizes and angled shapes, enhancing the professional appearance of the drone display and enhancing the overall product demonstration and brand identity.

Here is a very recent example of a drone display designed and constructed by a professional marketing firm, for a technology vendor at the 2017 CES show.  This very high-end display required drone barrier netting to encapsulate the entire upper area of the structure - which is the drone flight zone.  10 customized netting panels and shapes were needed to complete this display job, and the netting that was selected for this project was the #21 X 1-3/4" twisted-knotted nylon netting, diamond mesh pattern, with a 5/16" polyester rope bordering sewn-in around the perimeter edges.  As you can see from the product images below, the nets were constructed with specific dimensions and tapers to match the corresponding spaces of the flight pen area.

At Gourock we can certainly assist on the netting aspects of your trade show and convention center displays - especially for drone and UAV barrier purposes.  We do not advise or design the framing and structural aspects of the display itself - that is generally done by professional marketing and display designers - however you can certainly consider Gourock.com for the netting component of the overall job.  Feel free to use the contact page on our site to upload and submit any sizing or quote requests that you're interested in, and we look forward to assisting!

Custom Nylon Netting Shapes for Smaller Areas

Gourock.com supplies hundreds of custom built netting panels for a very wide spectrum of applications and needs.  Many times the netting that is required for a particular project needs to incorporate very specific sizing and shape characteristics in order to best accomplish its purpose.  Often the customized sizes and shapes are needed for larger installations such as sports stadiums, gymnasiums, warehouses, and outdoor facilities.  Lots of times these sorts of netting productions are pretty large in size, and are meant to have lots of coverage area - for instance, spanning entire specter bleacher areas or spans between buildings.  We have many examples of large custom netting productions noted throughout the Gourock.com site and on this company blog as well.

However, the custom netting available from Gourock is also very functional for smaller spaces and limited coverage areas.  Since we have a wide variety of netting twine thicknesses and mesh sizes available, as well as many options for customizing sizing and shape features, there are opportunities for netting solutions for very unique situations.  For instance, there are industrial warehouse applications that require small nets to barricade or block railing spaces, loft areas, and gaps in racking and shelving.  In other industrial applications there may be small specific gaps within rafters or between equipment storage spaces that need to be spanned with netting to block people, birds, debris, or animals from passing through.  The same sorts of situations also pop-up with private residential applications as well - and they also are typical for a lot of scholastic or municipal installations too.

Gourock.com specializes in custom netting supply, and you have the opportunity to have netting made per-order according to some pretty specific shape details as well.  A good way to get started on choosing the netting that is best-suited for your purpose is to take a look at the mesh size and twine thickness options that we have available to consider on this page of the Gourock website.  And then you can also use the contact page on the Gourock site to upload a diagram/drawing and forward it over to us to take a look at - and then we can quote some available options for your consideration.  You can also use the same contact page to request some sample pieces of different netting types, we mail them out at no charge.

Most of the highly custom nets that are supplied by Gourock.com are built using the highest-quality DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting.  Available in a wide selection of mesh sizes and twine thicknesses, and 100% Made in the USA, custom netting products from Gourock are produced per-order according to the sizing that you need for your particular project.  Whether it's a very large-scale netting production that is meant to surround entire driving ranges or commercial locations, or for smaller-sized nets that have a highly unique purpose and installation space, Gourock.com has a netting solution for you.

10' X 10' Golf Barrier Netting - Gourock Customer Review

At Gourock.com we really enjoy receiving photos and installation examples of the netting products that we supply and ship.  Here is a recent example of a golf barrier netting and poles that were supplied to a residential customer, with his notes on customization preferences he made while completing his project.  The netting featured is the #12 X 1" DuPont® knotted nylon netting, with 5/16" polyester rope bordering.  The vertical poles are Gourock 10' Steel Poles with Ground Anchors.

Thank you very much for your business and your feedback Mr. Humpton - we appreciate it very much and your report on your experience is very helpful for us, as well as other people doing research into barrier netting options!

10' x 10' panel system for golf ball protection

I just wanted you to know I love my 10 x 10 netting system.
Everything is awesome except I am a linear type of person :(
So, since the support poles have play in them and where leaning in up
to 8 inches I had to fix the problem.
I went out and bought a top rail for a black chain link fence and the
mounting harware. It was a little too big for your poles but worked
out great with some modification. This might be something you think
about offering for customers like myself that dont want that leaning
in look.
I have attached some photos.

Sincerely
J. Humpton
Very happy customer !!!

Custom Netting for Commercial Sports Training Facilities

Throughout the years, Gourock.com has supplied many commercial sports training facilities and businesses with their barrier and protective nets.  Ranging from new upstart regional businesses, to large established sports training firms, Gourock has the capability to quote, manufacture, and ship custom nets for each unique installation.  There are quite a few examples of different sports facility nets that we have supplied over the years throughout this company blog and on the Gourock.com site - but here is another interesting example from the last month that may help you during your research into protective sports netting and the custom netting options that are available to you.

Netting that is being installed at locations that are expected to be subjected to an increased amount of abrasion have a few characteristics to consider.  Specifically - thicker netting twines are recommended for commercial establishments since those sorts of locations have an expectation that there will be lots of continuous users, resulting in a pretty consistent amount traffic and impact on the netting.  As opposed to a lot of the netting that is used for general barrier and protective purposes, the nets that are installed at high-traffic training facilities for the same purposes are continuously subjected to various high-intensity impacts and wear-and-tear due to the amount of people and drills occurring within the facility every day.  So for instance, a general protective barrier net that is surrounding a field or a set of bleachers is expected to be impacted intermittently, and those nets are there to contain balls and protect property and spectators.  In contrast, the barrier nets at a sports facility will function for those same purposes - but also are utilized for other close-range and high-impact uses as well.  For instance, soft-toss training for baseball and softball players.  Or also for golf driving and hitting practice or drills (if the facility specializes in golf).  Basically, since commercially-oriented training establishments generally want to be able to get the most overall use from their netting, the thicker netting twines really aid in dependably providing a double-duty job (general containment/safety, as well as close-range impact uses).

Here is a recent example of a series of custom nets that were manufactured and shipped out to a training facility in Ohio that concentrates on high school athletes performing a wide variety of sports including baseball, softball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and golf.  So there were certain areas of their facility that they preferred the heavy-duty golf impact netting to take-care of all of the expected sports (since golf netting will also block/contain all of the larger objects as well), whereas there were some areas that were only to be geared towards the larger impact objects (basically everything larger than a golf ball).  And since this sort of netting installation calls for the thicker materials for the higher abrasion that comes with high traffic usage, the recommended materials for this project were the #21 X 3/4" knotted nylon netting, and the #36 X 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting.  These are both DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting constructions, black in coloring, and built diamond mesh pattern with 5/16" Dacron® (polyester) rope borders sewn-in around the perimeter.

In addition to the considerations of high abrasion/traffic and the multipurpose usage of the netting, there were also customized features integrated into the actual finished netting panels themselves.  For instance, as you can see from the fabrication drawings below, there are several notes and identifiers that make these netting productions unique to this particular location specifically:

  • custom dimensions for all of the different finished netting panels
  • polyester rope riblines installed within the area of the netting to line-up with the angles and connection points of the building's walls and ceiling taper locations
  • weighted rope bottom edges (leadline bottom ropes)
  • overlapping netting entrance door areas built to line-up with existing doors at the facility
In all, this production resulted in 13 custom nylon netting panels that are all being installed in specific locations of this sports training facility to make the area functional not just for the intended sports, but also for the nets to match well within the space and building itself.

As you are doing your research into containment, protective, barrier, and impact netting for your own sports training facility - feel free to contact Gourock.com with your requests or goals and we can take a look and get a netting quote together for you!

Baseball & Softball Field Backtop Stadium Netting

Barrier nets and protective netting panels are generally considered pretty imperative components of a baseball or softball field construction.  For instance, barrier netting is used to block and protect spectators from foul balls, and is installed around the perimeter of the outfield fence to contain home run balls within the playing area (avoiding hitting vehicles or pedestrians outside of the complex).  Other very necessary and popular netting installations at baseball fields is the containment and barrier netting used on backstops.  Using Gourock.com you can source the right baseball and softball backstop and barrier netting for your field and/or backstop construction.  Gourock supplies custom nylon nets that are prepared and shipped to you according to most any particular dimensions that you require.  There are convenient online netting calculators on the site that are used to efficiently and quickly price and order custom nets, with a few different construction features to consider.

Baseball and softball barrier netting is generally recommended to be the 1-3/4" knotted nylon netting, with a 5/16" polyester rope bordering sewn-in around the perimeter edges.  There are a couple of recommended twine thicknesses to consider, which are the #21 (2.0mm) and the #36 (2.5mm).  The reasons for these selections and features are:
  • 1-3/4" mesh size is the best match for baseball/softball impacts, while still remaining as large as possible to minimize the visual nature of the material when hanging.
  • The rope bordering significantly reinforces and strengthens the edges of the netting panel, allowing for dependable connections to the installation cables/wires/tubing/etc. for the long-haul.
  • The two different twine thicknesses allow for a choice between more general-use barrier installations and more high-abrasion installations.  For instance, the #21 is great for foul-line nets - whereas the #36 is great for the backstop nets.
  • All materials are black, bonded against moisture, and UV stabilized for full-time outdoor installations for many years.
Often, baseball field barrier nets and backstop nets require some additional custom features to be integrated into their design as well.  For instance, there are many instances noted on our Gourock site and this company blog of netting panels that require shapes or tapered edges.  Also very typical for custom nets that are being installed at sports facilities is a construction add-on known as a "rope riblines".  These are additional 5/16" polyester ropes that run through the inner area of the netting, in addition to running along the entire perimeter of the mesh.  Riblines are reinforcement features - meaning, they are added to the netting to line-up with the structural elements that the material is being connected to (wires, cables, tubing, poles, railings, etc.).  At Gourock.com we often see nets with riblines being sourced by commercial organizations, schools/municipalities, universities, and other larger-scale netting installations that put a premium value on maximizing the ease-of-use and overall longterm durability of the overall netting installation.

Here is a great example from a couple of weeks ago that demonstrates exactly this sort of netting supply.  This is a large backstop net produced for a school district in Texas for an outdoor installation.  They opted for the thicker netting material, #36 X 1-3/4" twisted-knotted DuPont type 66-728 nylon, as well as a series of both vertical and horizontal rope riblines running through the netting to make their attachments and connections to the existing backstop structure (as well as perimeter ropes around the edges).  And in addition to that, two of the netting panels also incorporate tapered edges to line-up with the guy-wire cables that are also already existing at the location as well.

Custom Nylon Golf Hitting Nets and Golf Cage Netting

Golf impact netting and golf cage nets are often sourced by commercial training facilities and sports centers in order to offer their clients a dependable location for golf driving and hitting practice.  Golf netting is also very, very popular for private and residential users as well - and often our private-use customers opt to use the same types of materials and designs as what are supplied to pro-shops, organizations, and commercial golf centers.  Most of the time these sorts of golf nets require customized considerations regarding the sizing, shape, and design features of the finished product.

With Gourock.com you can use the online calculators to price and purchase golf impact netting to most any particular dimensions that you require for your project.  The most recommended and strongest netting option for golf is the #21 X 3/4" DuPont® type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon netting.  This is a very tough material that incorporates a very high abrasion resistance along with a high tensile strength of 241 lbs./twine.  There are a couple of different approaches that are common for golf hitting nets:
  1. Golf Impact Netting Panels, which are 2-dimensional nets that are ordered and fabricated to whatever particular height X width required.  These are built from the #21 X 3/4" knotted nylon netting, and they have a couple of different ways of being finished/bordered.  Here is the online calculator location for these on the Gourock site: http://www.gourock.com/golf-impact.html
  2. Golf Cage Nets, which are 3-dimensional netting products that feature the sides/end/ceiling all seamed together (rope bordered) and are ready to hang or suspend within your installation framing structure or ceiling cables.  These are built from the 3/4" knotted nylon netting in either the thick #21 material, or there is also a lighter-wieght #15 twine to consider as well.  Here is the online calculator location for custom golf cage nets on the Gourock site: http://www.gourock.com/golfcages.html
Sports training facilities and golf practice areas will often decide to go with extra-large golf cage nets in order to maximize their hitting space, and to offer a larger volume of area to be swinging away in.  A pretty typical or conventional size for a golf cage net is about 10' high X 10' wide X 10' deep - and at Gourock.com we have great options for these as well.  However in this next example you'll see that the sports facility that had this recent custom golf net produced wanted to go with quite a bit more size and volume for their intended use.

Advantage Fitness in Lancaster, NY recently required a custom golf cage net that was being installed underneath a series of tensioned cables within their indoor training space.  Here is a great newspaper article about the business if you'd like some good background on their operation.
For this net, what they wanted to do was go for an extra large golf cage net that they could slide back-and-forth on their cables to get it out of the way for when the space was being utilized for other purposes.  Also - the large size of it would allow for more ball flight and more opportunities for multi-person use if needed.  And through Gourock it is possible for both of these characteristics to be handled without any issue at all.
First of all, nylon is a very user-friendly material that condenses down quite easily to smaller spaces (for storage, or sliding on cables), so the installation technique on wires is really functional with the knotted nylon netting material.  And also, we can integrate additional ropes or connection lines running through the mesh if needed.  These extra ropes are very helpful for clipping to cables with hooks, and where you often see these being added to the design (on larger golf cage nets like this one) is right down the middle section of the ceiling.
And secondly, the sizing needs are always available through Gourock.com since we specialize in the supply of custom netting!

This golf netting production for Advantage Fitness had the following unique characteristics, and you can view the images below for greater context into the netting, design, and the installation itself:
  • #21 X 3/4" knotted nylon netting
  • 12'-8" high X 15'-11" wide X 25' long
  • 5/16" polyester rope bordered on the edges, with an additional center-ceiling line running through the top
  • Secondary layer of impact netting (reinforcement netting) to layer over the entire back end-panel, 12'-8" high X 16' wide with top rope and tails
Thanks again Mark!  Great working with you, and we appreciate it!
